You may want to ask other people to explain their point of view more exactly by using expressions like these: I’m sorry, I don’t quite understand what you mean by. . . I didn’t quite follow what you were saying about. . . I’m sorry, could you explain what you mean by. . . ? I don’t quite see what you mean, I’m afraid. I’m afraid I’m not really very clear about what you mean by. . . I don’t quite see what you’re getting at. What do you mean by. . . ?
